Meet Sarah

Sarah J Colebourne

Sarah has been working as a Speech and Language Therapist for over 30 years since qualifying in 1987 with a BSc in Clinical Communication Studies at The City University in London.

Sarah also attained a MSc in Human Communication at The City University in 1990 and a Diploma in Teaching English as a foreign language with The English Language Centre, London in 1993. Sarah is also a qualified Dyslexia Tutor having obtained the RSA Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) in 1997 at University College in London. She has been on many continuing professional development courses and is trained in Makaton signing and symbols and in Signed English. Sarah is a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice and the Health and Care Professions Council. She also has 21 years of experience as a Reiki Healer, having qualified in 1995.

Sarah has worked in the National Health Service as a Speech and Language Therapist in various places in London and Essex since 1987 and also worked in Kenya for two years setting up a Speech and Language Therapy and Special Needs Service. Sarah has always done some independent work. She has been working full-time in independent practice since 2000, this includes some work for Health and Education authorities. She opened the Speech Language and Literacy Therapy Centre at Elm Lodge, Finchley, London in January 2004 and the Speech, Language and Literacy Therapy Practice in Essex in April 2012.

Sarah worked for six and a half years at the Nuffield Hearing and Speech Centre at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital in London gaining extensive specialist experience working with children from two to eighteen years of age with speech and language disorders, oral and verbal dyspraxia and dyslexia. At this Centre Sarah was involved in developing and lecturing on the Nuffield Centre Dyspraxia Programme, a speech and language therapy resource for children with oral and verbal dyspraxia.

Sarah has extensive experience in giving children both weekly and intensive individual and group therapy. She has worked across various settings including specialist multi-disciplinary teams, clinics, health centres, speech and language units, teaching hospitals, community hospitals, schools for children with moderate and severe learning difficulties, mainstream nurseries and schools and within her own multidisciplinary children’s centres. She has worked in Africa where she had to make her own resources and within her own children’s practices which have a huge plethora of resources, toys and picture materials.

She is also highly experienced in using all versions of the Nuffield Dyspraxia Programme, the Nuffield Dyspraxia Programme 3 software, the Speech Viewer and Electropalatograph with children having persistent speech disorders.

Sarah is registered with the major health insurance companies.
